Details for the Ohio District Tour will be available soon!
Past CKIx Testimony:
Circle K International Convention is a one of a kind experience, one that I would highly encourage for anyone on the fence about attending. It is an entire week of fellowship, leadership, and most importantly service! This year, the international convention got a little breezy as The Mighty Ohio District took on the windy city of Chicago for this week of fun and service!
Everyone had a little different experience with the trip, due to the wide variety of available things to do at convention, but only good memories were made. We asked our governor, Samantha Gates, to break down day by day the events of convention just to give you an insight into the amazingness that is CKIx:
Day 1: The Ohio District Circle K and Key Club took a charter bus to Chicago, which was a 7 to 11 hour bus ride depending on your bus pickup location. After arriving, we attended the CKIx opening session and then traveled to Navy Pier for the 4th of July fireworks display. Immediately following the fireworks, we were caught in a downpour, and we proceeded to walk 20 minutes to our hotel while also chanting “USA” down the streets of Chicago.
Day 2: The majority of our day was spent at the CKIx caucusing and House of Delegates sessions, where we got to know our candidates for international office and then select our international board. Additionally, we voted and passed several amendments that will result in the betterment of our organization.
Day 3: The Day of Service took place all over Chicago in small groups. My group spent the late morning and early afternoon serving the Chicago community by cleaning up two beaches on Lake Michigan: 12th Street Beach and Oak Street Beach. Afterwards, I visited Millenium Park and the Cloud Gate Statue, better known as the “Bean.”
Day 4: We spent our last day of CKIx educating ourselves in various workshops. The topics of the workshops would help us better serve our organization and individual clubs and members. I also went to Portillo’s Hot Dogs for a lunch reunion with the Governor Class of 2018-19. In the evening, the new international board was installed into their positions, and we held the international awards ceremony.
Day 5: The Ohio District of Circle K purchased City Passes to get into several Chicago tourist destinations at a discounted price. We started out our morning at the Field Museum, where we primarily spent our time looking at the mummy and dinosaur exhibits. Next, we went to the Shedd Aquarium, where we got to see beluga whales, dolphins, and sea otters that were extremely playful. We also did the sting ray touch. Following the aquarium, we visited the Alder Planetarium. It was interesting but we had such a long day prior that we didn’t stay long. We then went to the Willis (Sears) Tower Skydeck and stood in the glass observation boxes, which were 103 stories tall. Following the Skydeck, we went to Texas de Brazil for our district dinner, which was my first time. The food was delicious and the views were beautiful. To end our day, we went to the Hancock Tower 360 Observation Deck to view the city at night. A couple of us also did the Tilt experience, where you stood in a glass slot and was tilted out and downward from the building, allowing you to get a better look at the city streets below.
Overall, this trip was amazing, and I couldn’t imagine being apart of any other organization. I get to work and lead with so many passionate people on a daily basis, while also making this world a better place. Thank you to everyone that has made my one and only CKIx incredible!
